purchasing/receiving specialist
OPXBIO is seeking a team oriented individual to support laboratory and corporate purchasing and receiving operations. This position purchases laboratory supplies, scientific equipment, and other materials as needed. Creates purchase orders, reconciles received items and inputs receivables into accounting software. Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory at planned levels. Assists with obtaining quotes, examining bids, evaluating vendor reliability, and developing new supply sources. Responsible for the physical and administrative tasks involved in the receiving, storing and distribution of materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received goods and rejects unsatisfactory items as necessary. Related work experience in an industry research laboratory setting and college level coursework in a scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Understanding of common chemical names, laboratory safety procedures and equipment maintenance helpful. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software, experience with Microsoft Dynamics and SharePoint Business Portal a plus.
research assoc. bioprocessing
OPXBIO is seeking team oriented scientific staff to contribute to our bench scale fermentation research. Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 2 years work experience or an equivalent combination. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, aseptic technique, microbial cell culture including controlled bench scale fermentation, media preparation, growth of microorganisms on solid and liquid media, preparation of freezer stocks, quantification of culture growth, and measurement of key substrates and intermediates. Effective calculation of assay results, with understanding of statistical concepts, is a must. Requires an understanding of bacterial physiology and metabolic pathways. This position requires flexible work hours involving both day and swing shift assignments based on experimental needs.
fermentation engineer/scientist
Requires a PhD in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, molecular biology or related field; a Masters plus a minimum of 3 years of experience; or equivalent combination, plus 3-5 years experience in an industrial microbiology research environment. A comprehensive understanding and previous research and development experience with fermentation science and bacterial physiology is essential. Quantification of cellular metabolites and application of stoichiometric flux balance modeling is preferred. This position requires proficiency in the execution of multiple simultaneous bench scale fermentations and the ability to interpret fermentation results within the context of metabolic pathways. This position will provide technical leadership in the laboratory; will assist upper management in anticipating risks to research plans; and will also identify contingencies to mitigate those risks. Supervisory experience preferred. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, independent literature review; consistent and successful team-based execution of experiments; collection, independent evaluation, and presentation (written and oral) of experimental results from a breadth of scientific disciplines to inform actionable decisions; and mentoring more junior team members.
Director Business Development
This position works in partnership with the Vice President, Business Development in developing and implementing the company's business growth strategy, marketing analysis, product planning and customer/partner relationship strategies. Identifies, develops, and negotiates strategic business relationships that could include among others, joint ventures, joint development agreements, technology licensing, development contracts, off-take agreements, feedstock supply agreements and services agreements. Negotiates strategic relationships with other companies and supports efforts to secure partnership and strategic alliance contracts. Researches and analyzes the company's markets, competition and product mix. Performs literature research, analyzes and summarizes data, and makes presentations on new market and technical areas. The ideal candidate will have an MBA or other business-related post graduate degree, with undergraduate background in a scientific or engineering field. Ten years work experience in the specialty chemicals, fuels/energy, and/or biotechnology industries with depth of experience in business development, finance and product management related roles required. Experience must demonstrate success in the completion of strategic partnerships, merger & acquisitions, and/or technology licensing deals, ideally within the specialty chemicals industry. Analytical skills and advanced ability in market research and financial analysis required.
scientist / senior scientist genomics
Requires a PhD in Chemical & Biological Engineering or related field, a Masters plus 3+ years experience, or equivalent combination. An ideal candidate is someone who has designed and executed experiments involving selection or screening approaches for evolving new phenotypes, experience with genomic library construction, microarrays and/or next generation sequencing technologies. Applicants should be motivated to evaluate new applications for these tools and an understanding of genetics, selection, population dynamics, and statistics is required. This position will require an in-depth understanding of strain selection, metabolic networks, efficient implementation and manipulation of genetic traits. A thorough understanding of metabolic engineering techniques and experience with basic microbiology techniques in E. coli or other bacterial systems is preferred. Responsibilities may also include novel algorithm development and implementation and data management/ interpretation.
